Past Life Regression

Today in the morning, I had a debate with a friend on past life regression. I am reading the book "Many Lives, Many Masters" by Dr. Brian Weiss these days. Dr. Weiss, a traditional psychotherapist, had a patient called Catherine who has memories of certain traumas that happened to her in her past life and he uses hypnotic treatment for past life regression. The patient recalled certain instances from the past thereby finding a remedy for her past life traumas like fear of water and fear of enclosed places. This is what the book is all about. Past life regression and reincarnation. That they really exist.

Coming back to the debate, my friend believes that nothing of this sort exists. On the contrary I really feel that there is truth attached to these terms. Our opposite beliefs are just a matter of difference in perception. There is no evidence to prove either side of this argument. Researches have been carried out. Some conclusions have been made and support that there is reincarnation. Whereas others go against it.

Dr. Brian Weiss is an American. However this theory of past life regression dates back to the ancient India where life after death was mentioned in the Upanishads. There is no evidence to substantiate past life memories. Nor are there evidences to support that this theory is purely imaginery.

As I said, it is just a matter of perception. I am not giving any critics to this theory but I am just stating my belief that this exists.

I read this book for the time when I was in school. About 7 years back. I remember, I was reading this book while my English class was going on and I was caught reading a book out of course. My teacher called me to scold but instead was surprised to see this book in my hand. She asked me, "How can you read such heavy books at such a young age?". I had no answer to that question. I had kept quiet. But frankly speaking, I believe every word that is written in this book.

Today, my friend pointed out that my teacher wasn't wrong. Thats the age when we as kids learn and percieve whatever we read and see around us. Thats the time when we start thinking and decide whats good and whats bad. And so was the case with me. I agree with him. Since, I read this book at a very early age and I believed it to be true, that has become my perception. And since my friend was exposed to concepts that go against my concepts, that became his perception. I have no clue whether this theory exists or it does not. There was Archimedes who rushed out of his bath shouting eureka for he realised that the concept of displacement exists. Newton discovered gravity with an apple falling on his head. Einstein coined the theory of relativity. Didnt these people face criticism from the entire world. These people were called mad. There were theories which took many hundred years to be proved true. But till then they carried the title of idiots.

There are a lot of concepts which still havent been proved (or even disproved).

Let me know what you think.

Do you believe in reincarnation and recalling the past life.

Do you think that hypnosis can heal the symptoms that you see in your present life but originated sometime in your past life.

I think that these are true. What about you?

Well firstly, I must say quite a thought out post... liked knowing your perception.

As far as having one's own perception is concerned I guess that also comes primarily from the surrounding you've been exposed to from the very early age of your life. Every thing around you influences and thus determines what kind of person you are and will become.

But I also feel that some things are ingrained in you, which while getting the conducive atmosphere come to the surface, I call them basic nature of a person. They might mould according to the situation demands but they will turn back to their own self once they are set free.

I am also considered to be completely mad and one of a kind which of course I happily accept and thus nod, but so are the others everyone is unique in their ways and one of a kind. And thats the way to be otherwise life would become so boring and monotonous.

Now coming to your question of past life thing to be true?
Yes, in my personal opinion i do feel that there is something of this sort that exists. But the very reason of me believing this way is entirely because I choose to believe in anything that someone says or experiences or feels. But i dont blindly follow what these beliefs are unless i am the one who goes through that particular experience as that will give that incident a feel of authenticity in my aura, my world.

Oh! btw sorry for such a long comment, i guess its even longer than your post [could be the result of me not writing anything since ages thus i let it all out here ;)]

And one more thing i want your mail address, i checked it in your profile but couldn't find it. Mine is rashmiyadav247@gmail.com

Much love,
rash :)

@ Supriya : u must read that book... There are a lot of things that I didnt mention here.. Things that caught my attention...

I think every one should read this book.. even those who do not believe in this theory..

Chanz said...

@ Rashmi : I totally totally agree with what you said.. Thats the argument that I gave to my friend. About the perception part.

I feel that everything that happens to us (good or bad) holds some meaning. Life has its own way of teaching us. And so things shape the way they should be which may not necessarily be according to our liking..

It is not good to blindly believe what others say.. I found certain instances in the book which convinced me and made me realise that life needs to be taken more seriously.. And hence ma love for this book...

I never read any book twice. Never. Until and unless I found something in that book worthwhile. Only then would I read it again.

@ Supriya: thats the Tele-serial which actually ignited this topic for discussion.

@ chanz: i still don agree to your theory.
Nothing is destined in this world, unless you do some thing or put your efforts. And you tend to put your efforts in, what you believe to be true.

I have read two books by this author - "Only love is real" and "Many lives many masters" and yes I do believe in reincarnation.
Before I read the book, I had seen the concept of reincarnation only in movies like "Karan Arjun" :-p and I mocked it. But as I grew up, I started believing in this, dont know how, but I started using the word "Soulmates" often. And then I read Brian Weiss and understood the whole thing much better.
I think its true.

I totally agree, I have not read the book. But I do support the regression therapy.

Saying that, i also should mention that i do not support things people do using this regression theraphy.

There is a reason why God made the memories forget, let them be that way.

Hey Chandni,

Respect your perception, but
I believe that only 1 life has been given to us. If I were Einstien in the previous life, then of what use wud I be in this life?

Hi even i read that book. and the first thing that came to my mind is whether is it really possible?and then that stupid serial on TV. makes one really wonder is it really possible.if we go by that book that means all of us do have a past life as all of us face so many problems, all of us have some or the other issue which is troubling us that means all of us have had past lives.which is just unbelivable

Chanz said...

@ease : exactly.. I believe this theory to be true so i put in efforts to make it happen.. :)

Chanz said...

@ Renu : same here.. I too wanna try it once.. Just once. I wanna see how can it be possible..

Chanz said...

@ Shivani : I know. Sometimes I get goosebumps when I imagine myself as a guy in another lifetime.. I dont know what I ever was, was life I have lead.. I have no clue but I so want to know about it...

Chanz said...

@ Sid : Umm... I have never thought like that. But since u mentioned, I think I will agree with u.. But I am damn curious to know..

Chanz said...

@ Annum : well, its not necessary that you need to be big in every life. Maybe Einstein was a beggar in another life or maybe he was a an ordinally man with an ordinary brain.. He proved himself in one life, that doesnt mean that he has to prove himself in every life he lives...

Chanz said...

@ anju : Its not necessary that everybody has had the same fate in every life. I might have had a terrible death in one life whereas I must have died peacefully in all others. That does not mean that I will suffer in my present life because of that. Maybe I have already suffered in some other life.

Dont u agree that every body has some issue and some troubles. Do you not have any fear. None at all. Is there something that scares you. Or maybe some of your fears are alien to you coz u have already learnt how to deal with it..

annum said...

Hii,

you have a point, but I didnt specifically mean big personalities. Its jsut tht even if einstien turned to be a beggar in another life, then how is it connected with his previous inventions?
He has been given a totally different life later and would thereby live that life according to the present circumstances. Wouldn't it be better to concentrate on the life you ve been given? Already, thr is a past, a present and a future in this very life...

There are some theories on past life..and lots of early transcripts say about it.Its a possibility
_________

Her: (sitting next to him)

Him: what do you think of life after death?

Her: I dunno.. never thought about it..

Him: would u like to be born again as a human?

Her: the world has become such a filthy place to live. I think there is more and more hate with every growing moment. People fight over issues which are so damn trivial you know. Nowadays, people are being used and things being loved. I think life has a weird way of taking twists and turns and you suddenly find yourself in a ditch so deep that it takes you forever to get outta it. There’s no humility left in this world. I don’t like the way its turning out you know. I dunno wat I wanna be in my next life. What about you?

Him: Deaf…!

@ Sorcerer: What a comment! In that case, I wanna be God.

Hey Chanz, great questions. I don't believe in reincarnation - I believe we live one life on earth, but that we have souls that are created by God that continue on after death.

I do believe hypnosis can do crzy things, but not see into previous lives. I think sometimes it can just build up emotion and make us think and dream weird things. Other times I think it can connect us in a strange way with the supernatural world of good and evil that is around us. I dislike that it makes us lose control - we are no longer in control of our own actions while we are hypnotized, and I don't think this is wise.

Chanz said...

@ Annum : It is not necessarily connected with his inventions... there is no rule that the past life will definitely have some relevance to the present life or any life following that... It 'may' be related..

@ease said...

kudos to Sorcerer

Chanz said...

@ Sorcerer : Our past lives and futire lives were not chosen by us. It was never according to what 'we' wanted.. looking at the present world, even I dont want to live any longer. I wish that this life is my last life. But again. i dont know what will happen after I die. that is what is explained in the book.. The in between states...

Chanz said...

@ Kacie : Souls. they were created. True. When we die, we become souls. Souls floating in space. Thats called the state of renewal. While in the spirit world you need to wait. Wait to be rejuvinated.

The author has said in his book that when we are in spirit world, we cannot feel the pain, we cannot experience relationships.

Here is an excerpt from the book :

"We come back in physical states to learn. We cannot learn as spirits. We must feel the pain. the spirit world is just a phase of renewal. Your soul is being renewed. When you're in physical state in the flesh, you can feel pain; you can hurt. In spiritual form you do not feel. There is only happiness, a sense of well being. But its a renewal period for us. the interaction between peopl in spiritual form is different. When you are in physical state,...you can experience relationships."

@ease said...

Hypnosis is one theory which i strongly believe in. I think it is one of the best way to heal/cure the mental state of the subject(as they say in the medical terms).

@ chanz: Things like, one has been given life to learn through pain etc etc is all crap. For me, there is nothing like life before-after death, incarnation etc..
My philosophy is, you have been blessed with one life, make the most of it. Do the best in whatever you do so that people remember you for your good deeds. Don think about things like, what will happen to you after you die or anything like that.

There is a very strong theory that "Chitragupta is taking care of all our accounts of evils and good deeds" and this balance sheet is balance by him in this life only...

the moral: don bug me, else u too will be bugged by some one, sometym, some ways.

:P

Chanz said...

@ease : If u think that I will not bug you then, my dear friend, you are mistaken.. And yeah my heartiest congratulations to Chitragupt.. He was right. Watever happens, the debit and credit must be done in this life. Right. But there are things that we learn. It is not necessary that we get to learn everything in this life.

let me explain this by an example. Lets say, I was supposed to learn a very simple concept "we must always do good to others". lets say that I fail to learn it. I dont follow this in my life time. I do bad to all the people i know. Now lets follow your rule. other do bad to me baceuse I was bad to them. What happens do I learn. Do i suddenly realise, " Shit man. I was a fool. I shouldnt do bad to others". And you see a remarkable change in me. I become a good person. No that doesnt happen.

Still sticking to what you say about the good and the evil. People do bad to me. I suffer and I die a bad death. But i didnt learn in that lifetime. I will learn later. In another lifetime. based on what wrongs I did, I will get a life in which I get to learn all that I didnt learn in the prev life.
Thats how I think. thats how I think life goes on..
